State legislatures across the country are trying to ban Chinese citizens from owning land here. A big driver behind this is lawmakers saying they want to restrict where people can buy property because of national security. The legislation SB264 will prohibit the purchase of farmland in Florida by the CCP and other foreign countries of concern. It also includes land within 10 miles of any military installation or any type of critical infrastructure.
A new Florida law will restrict where Chinese citizens can buy homes, and other states may follow suit. The legislation is eerily similar to racist land laws from over 100 years ago. Vox reporter Li Zhou and Hofstra law professor Julian Ku explain.
