I think if you have grown up in a neurodivergent family, then you really think what I'm experiencing and what my parents will like is typical. And when the younger generations start to get diagnosed and exactly what you're saying, people learn this information. It's just a different way to think about something that a lot of people already know or conceptualise intuitively. If we understand that maybe Sally and Nana are the same because they're both ADHDers or they're both autistic, then that usually means that Sally is going to have a much better understanding of herself and have an easier time in life.
