Kuhn was looking at scientific paradigms, both in terms of how they manifested in the psychology of scientists. Tainter was trying to discover why it was that civilizations collapsed and he called them complex societies. We are sitting in yet another complicated society that has a marriage to a particular set of paradigms. All the signs point to we're reaching the end of that.
