The History of the Safavids in Iran

Safavid rule began in the early 16th century, right where we left off in the episode about Shiraz. Along with anyone else who wanted to pursue a scholarly career under the Safavids, Kriyath Adin espoused the beliefs of the Twelver branch of Shiite Islam. This form of Shiism is still dominant in modern-day Iran. They had laid claim to an ancient land but their legitimacy was not recognized by all other Muslims.
