The South African Economy

The economy of South Africa has been a surprising success story since the end of apartheid. In other ways it's still struggling. Adam Sobel: Is that an unusual combination of high and low goods and services without that middle economic layer of manufacturing? The risk is that if you develop a mining industry you know a highly competitive global export what it does is to crowd out the rest of the economy.
