Mac powell: Every time you get a story about an attack on liberalism and part from the right, but also from the left, it is dismissed by partisans as just a crazy story. This really isn't a broad phenomenon going on in the country,. So i guess i wanted to get your sense of a only te stories that you've been writing about, on the right and on he left in different parts of the U.S. But lso outside of academia, do they add out to a bigger picture? That's a great question. I think the answers almost certainly yes.

Michael Powell is a reporter for The New York Times, covering issues including free speech, education and identity politics. His reporting takes him from the campuses of elite universities and private schools to the halls of the ACLU.
