The Romans and the Samnites

As many as a third of the consuls prior to three 67 were, in fact, of plebeian origin. The new enfranchisement of the plebes made the romans a more cohesive and less devisive society. This cohesion would be tested by a confrontation that loomed on the horizon. Next week we will introduce the samnites, the fiercest of all the hill tribes who would prove more than a match for rome.
