The History of the Hinterkifek Murders
In 1931, Lorenz Schleitenbauer continued to profess his innocence. The investigation was set aside completely as the Second World War commenced. During the 1940s, bombings by Allied forces on German cities such as Nuremberg and Dmünich destroyed much of the evidence relating to the case. Despite going cold, Germany's fascination with the mystery ensured theories and conjecture endured throughout the years. In 1971, Carl and Andreas Schreier, the brothers who were briefly arrested in 1922, were cast back into the spotlight.
