As an undergraduate, you discovered the joy of in-depth lab-based research. And if you wanted an answer to a difficult question, you were really going to have to work it out for yourself. I was working with metal compounds, and metal ions don't usually go around in nature on their own. They go around bonded to other molecules. So the type of molecules that my metals were going to be bound to were called microcyclic molecules.
