Dostoevsky tried to edit Jesus out of Crime and Punishment because he didn't want to see them there, Birmingham says. Raskolnikov does not find God at the end ofCrime and Punishment; this is what Dostoevksy said. He finds Jesus after the book: "Can her convictions, Sonia's convictions, can her convictions not be mine now?"Birmingham also asks why conservatives haven't elevated Tom Hanks' new movie about a submarine captain who kills Nazis.
