Plato, Xenophon and Aristophanes - Are They the Real Socrates?

Is it your impression that plato's portrayal of socrates is closely based on the historical socrates? I mean, this is one of the big questions, i suppose, to the extent. If you compre aristophanes, we've got the three sort of main bits of evidence for socrates. Unfortunately, as is well known, socrates himself did not write anything. He doesn't tell us, ecause he didn't leave any writings behind. And then you have plato and xenophon, who are both followers of socrates to some extent. And plato socrates is a very provoc an, annoying figure. Xenophon socrates is much duller.
