The Origins of Race

In 1676, white and black slaves rose up against plantation owners in Bacon's Rebellion. As a result of this, the plantation class got together as a unified group and said, we cannot let this kind of thing ever happen again. So from there they started creating really aggressive laws that defined who the whites were and who the blacks were. This was then codified into law for decades and then centuries and it established what we now call race.
