i agree with you, that this thread of american history a has been given short shrift. Epublicanism is really tightly bound up with all sorts of things like federalism or subsidiarity and communitarianism. I think it's pretty clear that trying to impose a homogeneous philosophicala structure on the founding, even as an event that was unusually self conscious and theorized,. even still, thre are just so many threads and factors a going on there.
