The Problem With Multitasking
We can multitask with habits if they don't require much thought. But for things that require active attention, our performance really does suffer. Attention residue is a term coined by researcher Sophie Leroy. It's interesting because this stuff that exists in our mind from the previous thing that we were just doing, we can't cleanly switch. And so that creates inefficiencies as not only do we have to load the next task, we have to forget the previous thing.
