The Effects of Stress on Learning Healthlessness

The theory was proposed by Martin Seligman. When the experiment dogs were exposed to electric shocks and they weren't allowed to escape or avoid the shocks, they couldn't get out. And then over time, after being repeatedly shocked, when given the opportunity to escape, they learned healthlessness. The effects are dependent on the uncontrollability of the stressor.
