Lestat's enthusiasm for human blood can be interpreted as a positive acceptance of his condition. The relationship between Lestat and Claudia resembles Monchausen syndrome by proxy also called factitious disorder imposed on another. Louis' refusal on moral grounds to kill humans creates an obsessionally neurotic disposition in him resulting in libidinal energy becoming damned up with pathological character traits taking hold the super ego is strong in Louis he ruminates on his impulses which seem overwhelming to him but he nevertheless strives to gain control over them. He diligently tries to cope with bouts of anxiety and sadness becoming an iconic representation of the vampire as a depressive figure.
