What Would Shock Contemporary Libertarians to Learn About Them?
The most surprising group of libertarians from a contemporary perspective are the American libertarians in the 19th century. Benjamin Tucker referred to himself as a socialist and thought that libertarianism, as he understood it, was perfectly compatible with socialism. There was deep suspicion of markets among libertarians in the19th century; you still see a little bit of that today though it's somewhat fringe.
