A Moon or Planetary Probe?
Satellites are an option, but they have their own problems. And the closer to the planet, the worse that is. So we can't assume an advan civilization can keep a satellite up,. But it still wouldn't let you poke around on the planet, just absorbed from above. An ultra long duration orbital probe? To me is ably one with an unfolding shell. It would likely use visible light sensers, but also inferad radio or bunch of other sensor options. A big, thick dog sh for absorbing sunlight makes it fairly stealthy. You can also set it to crash itself into the atmosphere and detonate mid drop to dispose of the evidence of its existence. If
