Why Did People Move Up to Carphy?
It sounds to me like there was probably a spirit of cooperation in these mountains. The local people weren't taking each other's shit. They were probably helping each other out. You would have to imagine that because life is hard up there. This is not a utopia. I am sure there are people who stole other people's sheep. So, Carphy was not a place you lived if your life was going well. It makes us wonder why did people move up to this remote place? Why did they go to such lengths to live in such an inhospitable, inconvenient place? Nobody knows. And the answer may lie in what was happening in the wider world.
