I joined the Greenhards, which is a North Yorkshire regiment. Most of the soldiers come from Middlesbrough,. pretty tough area. They had a previous platoon commander they'd had for two years. So I had to earn their respect. It takes a while to be accepted. A very fast growing up experience. You're still very young there and you're still in command of a group despite the fact that there was someone senior that you could lean on when you needed to.
