The Importance of Ward Republics
If we can have instead of 50 jurisdictions, we can have 500,000 or 50,000 jurisdictions. There are many more opportunities to find something that comports with your conception of the good and vote with your feet. So it's not that democracy as a consensus mechanism is always bad, but the more localized it can be, the more likely you are to approach unanimity with it. We very much have a winner take all system and increasingly so. If I were rebooting the Constitution, if I were going to do it geographically based, I would have every state be about a million and a half people. And that might be or like a mega city.
