Zeno began his reign sensibly enough, by negotiating with the vandals to get roman captives returned. But it didn't take long for a conspiracy to form against the new emperor. One of the chief movers in this cabal was our old friend, basiliscus. The senate threw open the gates for zeno, who reclaimed his throne only 20 months later.
