Supply Shock

00:00

Is the Fed Really Aware of Inflation Expectations?

The Fed is horribly afraid of inflation expectations becoming unanchored. They continue to look at these inflation expectations surveys and say oh no problem here inflation expectations are purely anchored now. There's a great Fed paper from quite a few years ago about how huge inflationary shocks can get embedded in the psyches of people. When you accept expect higher prices you accept higher prices meaning that you don't push back against price increases. It will be really interesting to see how embedded this episode will become in the psyche and if it becomes something that is more entrenched than before.
