There's a push towards superficiality in no small part because superficial things have large profit margins. Make more money selling advertising on Twitter than you do as a publisher selling books that took an author two years to produce and you sell them for 20. Pornhub makes a ton of money. An album that you used to buy for $18, not as much of a profit margin. So just remember that the candy is where the profit is and generally where the Profit is, the depth goes to crap.
