The ostrich effect can diminish the quality of your decisions and lead to unintended consequences. For example someone avoids seeking out a medical diagnosis and by delaying makes the condition worse. Someone ignores that check engine light in their car because they fear an expensive repair but by forgoing simple maintenance they cause more serious problems.
