William the second was king of england and duke of normandy. He sees them as two distinct places that he happens to be in charge of both. Isi's kind of like a satellite, really a power satellite. It is not until about 20 years after his death when william the second's brother and heir, henry the first, actually conquers normandy,. that from then on, the english king is in continuous control in normandy.
