The Importance of Language Learning
When you finish your degree, you're a professional language teacher. You get a job in teaching languages to others at that point when you're done. So I took this opportunity in the year 2000 and started running the Partners in Excellence project which was basically a virtual centre for modern languages. We worked with 29 secondary schools across the west of Scotland. Some were very large urban schools, some were very rural, very small schools. A language is a living thing. It's something that young people just like them use every day to watch TV, to tell jokes, to argue with their parents, to fall in love with each other and so on.
