The Importance of Military Watchers in the Balkans
Every one of the great powers had military observers in the Balkans. There were difficulties, disease, machine guns and rapid firing artillery that caused enormous casualties. The Bulgarians mobilized just over 30% of their adult male population. And the Turks had 125,000 killed in action or died of disease,. 100,000 wounded and 115,000 captured. That's a pretty huge chunk of your army.
