CHAPTER

Dobson Ozone Spectofotometer

The story around how the hole in the ozone was discovered is kind of interesting. In 1977, Jonathan Shanklin gets a job at the British Arctic Survey with one of his first jobs being to check and correct all data collected from the Dobson ozone spectofotometer. So this piece of kit is used to detect the amount of UV reaching the earth. And in turn is a very important piece of kit for accurately reading how much ozone is in the atmosphere. If more UV is reaching earth, there's less ozone in the sky.
