Targeted Protein Degradation as a Treatment Modality
The first generation of the small molecule approaches for targeted protein degradation are known as bifunctional molecules. They have one end that engages the target that you would like to degrade or dispose of usually a disease causing protein. The other end of the molecule is part of the molecule that engages the machinery in the cell that basically takes the target protein that you want to degrade and destroys it essentially within the cell.
