The Religious Divide in Medieval Europe

There is this impression given that medieval Eastern Europe, and really I mean by that small E as in directional, not capital E Eastern, but the Eastern half of Europe is empty. And you see these maps and it's like, why did you even include a two page spread? If you are the audience of this book undergraduate students ... your impression is very clearly that medieval Europe is populated in the West and utterly depopulated in the East. It might sound like I'm exaggerating, but certainly I'm not.
