Lieutenant Colonel Brian Goldstein is with the Rhode Island Army National Guard Medical Readiness Detachment. The fifth cranial nerve supplies sensation to both the upper and lower jaws of various degrees. We administer local anesthesia strategically in order to anesthetize those areas so that we can then engage the tooth for extraction.
