The Importance of Behavior in Machine Sanctions
behavior broadly construed is our best guide to whether something has sanctions. I'm also not convinced that LLMs are sentient, because I think their outputs are very weird if you consider the full range of them. But ultimately, all those kind of measures of which mechanism, which functional network is linked with which sentient state is validated through behavior.
