How Does the Culture Shape Our Experience of Shame?
Every culture has a way of experiencing shame, and we respond to it. It requires a more sophisticated brain for a child to comprehend the thing that we call guilt. Our responses to guilt and shame are different. When i feel guilty, i can move toward some one, to seek restitution, to seek help, to make sure that we're ok. Shame tends to turn me away from people. Ye e. Evil isn't just interested in making us feel bad about ourselves. It's merely looking for ways to disrupt and devour and keep us from creating beauty and goodness in the world.
