Do You Want to Be a Deputy Assistant Secretary of X for Y?

The executive branch is so big, in many cases, those jobs have a lot of implicit latitude, meaning like you can basically go rogue in those jobs. What that ends up creating upstream is these credentialing games, which exist all across Washington and I'd say in that, a cell corridor. People will read the bios of these assistant secretaries and they'll be like, man, this person was on the Appropriations Committee. And then they were a fellow at the Center for New American Security and then they were in Obama's Pentagon. These are when people play the game and I did not.
