The Importance of Drinking in Japan

I wonder on what grounds they charge these inordinate sums of money to the customers. Unless you're with a Japanese friend, he's already been there and knows the place. I imagine it's probably drinks for the staff, the girls themselves. And don't go in one of these bloody bars. Nothing good happens from a drink after 1 AM. So just don't do it.
