The muscl memory model is that rapid hypertrophy would slow back down when you reach your maximum mio nuclear domain size, which should roughly correspond to your all time biggest. So essentially, muscle memory is being accomplished by having the mio nuclei there to preserve translational capacity. The big picture for mi nuclear permanence is that it seems that mi nuclei are lost at a slower rate than muscle atrophy itself occurs but they're probably not actually permanent.
