The Challenge With Quantum Computing

There's been enough hype poured into quantum computing to the point, at least from where i sit, it's including what it actually is and what it's capable of. Part of the challenge with raising v c for something like quantum is that the immediate short term returns are hard to demonstrate. It seems that very often one of the challenges with quantum computing and explaining what it is is even articulating the type of problem that a quantum computer is built to solve. Is that a fair assessment, or am i radically misunderstanding something? Probably both.
