Dana Ewell was the youngest son of Dale and Glee Ewell. His father started a company named Western Piper Sales which specialized in the sale of small aircraft. By 1992 it's believed the Ewell's were worth between 7 to 8 million dollars - equivalent to around 14 million dollars today. Despite being extremely well off the Ewels lived a modest lifestyle and tended to avoid faunting their wealth. During his time in college he began to paint a rather deceptive picture of his own personal finances. He told people that his family's financial success was solely due to his extensive entrepreneurial skills.
