The July Monarchy's First Coup
The July monarchy was fending off these assaults from the outside, says historian. In 1836 a would-be Napoleon III skipped his way back to Switzerland and went into exile. After another disappointing election for the government in 1839, the dislike prime minister successfully resigned. But it proved almost impossible to form a new government because none of the leaders liked each other.
