Surviving texts were often in a chaotic or error strewn state and needed to be reorganized and corrected. In the worst case scenario, the author's works might simply be lost. This brings us to the works of aristotle and one the most famous tales about ancient textual transmission. Strabo tells us a complicated story about what happened to aristotle's private collection of books after his death.
