The Different Types of Iron Meteorites
All iron meteorites, or Ciderites, from the Greek Sederos, are composed chiefly of alloys of nickel and iron. The percentage of nickel in these iron meteorites is very small, usually from 5 to 10%, while the iron forms about 90 or 95% of the whole. Cobalt is also present in practically all iron meteorite, in small quantities of 1% or less. Usually small quantities of iron sulfide and phosphide, as well as graphite or some other form of carbon, appear in the iron meteorites.
