Davies: Modern philosophy has a few features which i find to be extremely a challenging, problematic, a seductive. There is a certain aspect in it which, there's the metaphor that comes to mind as ars ist and fire fighter. So you have a lot of instances where modern philosophy creates a problem, and then we celebrate it for solving it. And also a somewhat related phenomenonof the great modern philosophers, from dick hart onwards, who there's i tendency to see oneself as having seen something that no one has seen before. It seems as though it's holding out the hope for some and it doesn't pay off.
