Castro said he would not have agreed to the Soviet missiles if Cuba had known that they were just going to be pulled out. Mikoyan anxious to reassure Castro then said, we were also prepared to make sacrifices for Cuba. The Americans were not as much afraid because we deployed our missiles in Cuba as they were afraid that they would transfer them to you.
