Jesus Understands Me Black

"Jesus understands me black. When the leaders who promised to watch over look past me," she writes. "In guess so many every poor opened to spill understanding compassionate blood and on a hill called Calvary, where his hands marked not once, but twice in witness of him as son who gave for all like me who kneel." The poem is written with one sentence: "When my knees are marked from kneeling long, and my body ached from sleepless prayer filled nights begging for protection or help or deliverance".
