Shraddh is typically not the biggest event in the south of India and for two we seemed to have this very benevolent vision of our ancestors who passed so why is this period considered such an inauspicious period? So in the south the funeral rituals only happen in the elite communities, wherever Brahmin communities were very powerful. The Gangetic plain has always had a very strong Brahmin thing, the Rajputs. These rituals are very closely linked to Brahminism. It's about death should remain in the land of the dead right... You don't want them to come into society because then they will haunt you,. They bring the negative energies of death.
