Madam Bovary

I sometimes wonder if it's what hurt more was, I mean, they went after it over the sexy and I guess and the adultery. It doesn't seem to have hurt them as much as Emma Bovary having sex in a moving carriage. That was like the moment where France lost its mind. But you know, they couldn't say that. So they went after the lack of Emma's virtue, I guess. And maybe there's also a writer's desire to also sort of write about something far away.
