The Importance of Energy Efficiency in a Growing Economy

There is an illusion that efficiency makes us use less resources this is true on micro issues like air travel or light bulbs but from a global economy standpoint we have gotten one to 1.2 percent more energy efficient every single year. Since 1990 we've gotten 36 percent more efficient as a global economy with respect to energy yet our energy use has gone up 64 percent because we use the savings and funnel it back into this exponential growing economy so doing things for efficiency don't necessarily help certainly climate change. As economies are shrinking more efficiency is an immediate energy savings which will make huge investment pay off in coming decades when energy might be two or three or four times expensive. We need to prepare for a smaller economy
