Churchill, Is It a Stunt to Show the Russians What the Allies Are Capable Of?
Dresden was done politically as a stunt to show the Russians, you know, that's the main reason. I think there is this, because Churchill says right on literally the day before he leaves for Yalta, he goes to Sinclair and asks what plans do we have for basing the Germans in their retreat from Oslo. That's really mostly about how do we help the Russians and how do we make sure the war ends. It might be a little bit about Yalta and the political settlement and of course this is weighing hugely on Churchill yet again.
