Dresden was done politically as a stunt to show the Russians, you know, that's the main reason. I think there is this, because Churchill says right on literally the day before he leaves for Yalta, he goes to Sinclair and asks what plans do we have for basing the Germans in their retreat from Oslo. That's really mostly about how do we help the Russians and how do we make sure the war ends.
