The Theodosian walls were a triple row of fortification built back during the reign of Theodosius. They last for a thousand years and it would protect the land side of the peninsula that would occupy the city. That final defensive line was almost 5 meters thick, 12 meters high with 96 towers on top of it. This would extend across the peninsula to the shores from the Sea of Marmara to the Golden Horn in 439.
